FAQ

Purchasing a Badminton Racquet

What string should I choose?

When choosing strings for your badminton racquet, it's essential to consider factors such as playing style, skill level, and personal preferences.

  • 66 Ultimax: Created for powerful smashes. [Recommended]
  • BG80P: Enhanced power and repulsion.
  • BG65: Provides durability and moderate repulsion.
  • BG65Ti: Enhanced durability with titanium coating.
  • Exbolt 63: Offers a blend of power and control.
  • Exbolt 65: Balanced power and durability.
  • NBG95: Combines power with precision for all-around play.
  • NBG98: Versatile with a balance of power and control.
  • Aerosonic: Ultra-thin gauge with high repulsion power.
What tension should I choose?

Tension in badminton strings impacts the size of the sweet spot—the tighter the strings, the smaller the sweet spot. This means tighter strings offer less forgiveness for off-center shots, while lower tension provides a larger sweet spot for more forgiveness. We recommend starting off with a tension of around 24 pounds and adjusting from there to find the optimal balance of power, control, and forgiveness on the court.

What is the difference between pre-strung and strung racquets?

Prestrung racquets come with factory-installed strings at a default (usually low) tension, ready for immediate use. Unstrung racquets, however, require players to choose and install their strings, offering customization but requiring extra time and effort. We suggest players restring or adjust their racquet's tension according to their preferences and playing style. String tension affects control and power, so finding the right balance is important.

Do I need to buy an overgrip?

Buying an overgrip is vital for preserving your racquet's base grip. Overgrips add cushioning and traction, improving comfort and preventing slippage. By replacing them regularly, you keep the base grip clean and maintain optimal performance, extending your racquet's lifespan.

Which racquet suits me best?

When selecting a badminton racquet, consider factors such as your playing style, skill level, and budget. Beginners may prefer lighter racquets for easier manoeuvrability, while advanced players might opt for heavier racquets for increased power and control.

Head-heavy racquets

Head-heavy racquets, exemplified by the YONEX ASTROX and VOLTRIC series, concentrate weight towards the head. This design provides increased power, making them ideal for players who rely on strong smashes and clears to dominate the game.

Head-light racquets

In contrast, head-light racquets, such as those in the YONEX NANOFLARE and NANORAY series, distribute weight towards the handle. This configuration enhances manoeuvrability, allowing players to execute quick shots and defensive moves with ease.

Balanced racquets

Balanced racquets, like those found in the YONEX ARCSABER series, strike a harmonious middle ground. Offering a blend of power and control, they cater to versatile players who seek a well-rounded performance on the court.

4U Racquets

Racquets classified as 4U typically weigh between 80 to 84 grams (without strings). They're particularly favoured by beginners and players who enjoy a fast-paced playing style. 4U is more common than 3U.

3U Racquets

Racquets classified as 3U typically weigh between 85 to 89 grams (without strings). Intermediate to advanced players often prefer 3U racquets for their ability to generate power without sacrificing too much maneuverability.
